Bartolini IPAC2017 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: The mechanical alignment of Diamond Storage Ring is achieved by means of a 5-axis motion system under remote control via the EPICS toolkit from the Diamond Control Room. We have completed the first phase of the realignment program meant to improve the mechanical alignment of the machine by carefully moving the magnet girders with a virtually zero impact on the associated beamlines, hence the name Transparent Realignment (TR). During this phase we have equipped and realigned 3 out of 24 cells, involving two beamlines. We have also tested and perfected the technique to execute a move with live beam and total remote control of the realignment process. The program has entered a second phase entailing the commissioning of 6 more cells. Details of tests on the machine are reported.	May 2017

The girders can be moved by means of a 5-axis motion system under remote control via the EPICS toolkit from the Diamond Control Room. Currently three cells (three girders in each) have been equipped with a permanent protection system to prevent excessive deflection across each of the inter-girder vacuum bellows. The protection and motion systems are installed in the associated Control and Instrumentation Area (CIA). Full commissioning of the motion and protection systems have been completed. Results from the alignment test sessions are hereby reported.	May 2015

This paper summarises a number of measurements that have been made over that period to monitor the SR stability in height and position including general survey, Hydrostatic Levelling System (HLS), horizontal and vertical magnetic correction strengths as well as Radio Frequency (RF) that have given an indication of changing circumference. 	Transparent Re-alignment of the Diamond Storage Ring M. Apollonio , W. J. Hoffman , E. C. Longhi , A. Rose , A. Thomson , R. Bartolini IPAC14 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: 72 out of the 74 girders on which the Diamond Storage Ring magnets are mounted, can in principle be moved along 5 degrees of freedom (sway, heave,yaw,pitch,roll) potentially allowing a thorough re-alignment of the machine. Previously conducted tests improved our knowledge of the system both in terms of simulations and comprehension of the control system we rely upon. In this report we present the results of more detailed tests which now give us full confidence in our ability to predict the results of any given set of girder moves. We also discuss possible ways of increasing the speed of the procedure, and a strategy to mitigate the impact of girder moves involving nearby beam lines.	May 2014

Bartolini IPAC13 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: A model of the Diamond Storage Ring describing the misalignment of its 74 girders in terms of displacements and rotations is used to predict the orbit distortions and corrector magnet strengths needed for a zero orbit. Using the data from a survey we compare the effect of a pure magnet misalignment with the natural orbit of the machine. A test with a displaced girder meant to produce a reduction in corrector strength is introduced. Comparison with data obtained from the actual move of the girder is presented and discussed.	May 2013
	Results after one year from a Hydrostatic Levelling System installed at Diamond Light Source James Kay , Keith A. Baker , William J. Hoffman AIP Conference Proceedings DOI: 10.1063/1.3463260 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: A Hydrostatic Levelling System (HLS) has been installed at Diamond Light Source. 8 sensors have been positioned along a 60 metre portion of the floor of the Storage Ring and the Experimental Hall, stretching out along a typical beamline route from Insertion Device to sample. 7 of the sensors are installed on the thick, reinforced concrete floor of the Experimental Hall which is supported on piles and the last sensor is mounted on the much thinner concrete floor of the peripheral walkway which has no piles. The foundations and floor were designed to achieve settlements measuring 1 micron per 10 metres per hour and 10 microns per 10 metres per day. A larger range was specified of 250 microns per 10 metres per year on the Experimental Hall floor and 100 microns per 10 metres per year in the Storage Ring to account for longer term settlement effects and seasonal variation and the HLS has been installed to try and measure these very small movements. Results after one year of operation are presented.	Jul 2010
