Yet, despite the instrumental multiplex/multichannel advantages, the fidelity of the hyperspectral images relies on the throughput as the total flux of the source is divided among each FPA pixel. Additionally, maintaining the spectral resolution requires a certain level of collimation of the beam which adversely affect the flux of high étendue source. To this end, we propose an implementation of two deformable mirror (DM) sensorless adaptive optics system for infrared (IR) source coupling. The deflection shape of each DM membrane is optimized individually to deal with the beam intensity and the rays’ direction in a separate manner, while preserving the spectral quality across the entire mid-IR range. This paper contemplates the choice of metrics in sequential optimization in conjunction with two variations of stochastic parallel gradient descent optimization algorithm. We discuss this approach with respect to a state-of-the-art FTIR microscope.	Jun 2022

Schroer Optics Letters 44 DOI: 10.1364/OL.44.004622 Diamond Proposal Number(s): [17460] Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: In this Letter, we report on the creation of hard x-ray beams carrying orbital angular momentum of topological charge −ℏ −ℏ and −3ℏ −3ℏ at a photon energy of 8.2 keV via spiral phase plates made out of fused silica by ultrashort-pulsed laser ablation. The phase plates feature a smooth phase ramp with a 0.5 μm nominal step height and a surface roughness of 0.5 μm. The measured vortex beams show submicrometer-sized donut rings and agree well with numerical modeling. Fused silica phase plates are potentially suited to manipulate the electromagnetic field in highly intense x-ray beams at x-ray free-electron laser sources.	Sep 2019
I13-2-Diamond Manchester Imaging	Analytical registration of vertical image drifts in parallel beam tomographic data Malte Storm , Felix Beckmann , Christoph Rau Optics Letters 42 DOI: 10.1364/OL.42.004982 Open Access Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: Reconstructing tomographic images of high resolution, as in x-ray microscopy or transmission electron microscopy, is often limited by the stability of the stages or sample drifts, which requires an image alignment prior to reconstruction. Feature-based image registration is routinely used to align images, but this technique relies on strong features in the sample or the application of gold tracer particles, for example. In this Letter, we present an analytic approach for achieving the vertical registration based on the inherent properties of the data acquired for tomographic reconstruction. It is computationally cheap to implement and can be easily integrated into existing reconstruction pipelines.	Nov 2017

The purpose of a pulse picker is to select which pulse from the synchrotron hybrid-mode bunch pattern reaches the experiment. In the present work, the Bragg reflection on a Si/B 4 C Si/B4C multilayer was modified using surface acoustic wave (SAW) trains. Diffraction on the SAW alters the direction of the x rays and it can be used to modulate the intensity of the x rays that reach the experimental chamber. Using electronic modulation of the SAW amplitude, it is possible to obtain different scattering conditions for different x-ray pulses. To isolate the single bunch, the state of the SAW must be changed in the short time gap between the pulses. To achieve the necessary time resolution, the measurements have been performed in conical diffraction geometry. The achieved time resolution was 120 ns.	May 2017

The task is accomplished by using Fermat’s principle to define a lens shape that is completely free from geometrical aberrations. Current microfabrication resolution limits are identified, and a design that tolerates the inherent fabrication imperfections is proposed. The refractive lens design delivers nanometer-sized focused x-ray beams and is compatible with current microfabrication techniques.	Nov 2015

Using the two-dimensional scanning technique, the phase shift introduced by the object is retrieved in both transverse orientations, and the limitations on spatial resolution inherent to the speckle-tracking technique are avoided. Phase and amplitude were separated quantitatively at x-ray energies up to 80 keV with micrometric spatial resolution. The accuracy of the results was tested against numerical simulations, and the spatial resolution was experimentally quantified by measuring a Siemens star phase object. This simple setup should find broad application in those areas of x-ray imaging where high energy and spatial resolution are simultaneously required and in those difficult cases where the sample contains materials with similar x-ray absorption. Unlike many other at-wavelength techniques, only a single interferogram image, captured out of the focal plane, is required, enabling the optical surface to be quickly optimized. Moiré fringe analysis was used to calculate the wavefront slope error, which is proportional to the mirror’s slope error. Using feedback from grating interferometry, the slope error of a bimorph mirror was reduced to <200??nrad (rms) in only two iterations. This technique has the potential to create photon beams with spatially homogeneous intensities for use in synchrotron and free electron laser beam lines.	Apr 2014

Transverse wavefront slope maps, measured using a raster phase-stepping scan, allowed accurate phase reconstruction of the x-ray beam. Wavefront measurements revealed that the wavefront error is very sensitive to the input beam entering the FZP. A small stack of one-dimensional compound refractive lenses was used to introduce astigmatism in the probing x-ray beam to investigate the contribution of the incoming beam in contrast to the optical aberrations. Experimental data were shown to be consistent with theoretical calculations.	Mar 2013

Derived from a group of methods operating under visible light, its application in the x-ray domain using an x-ray absorption grating allows recovery of the mirror shape with nanometer accuracy and submillimeter spatial resolution. The method works with incoherent light, does not require any a priori information about the mirror characteristics and allows shape reconstruction of x-ray reflective optics under thermal and mechanical working conditions.
