Knowledge about these structures can facilitate the design of peptidomimetics which have been applied e.g. as inhibitors of protein‐protein interactions (PPIs). Even though β‐sheets participate widely in PPIs, they have only rarely served as the basis for peptidomimetic PPI inhibitors, in particular when addressing intracellular targets. Here, we present the structure‐based design of β‐sheet mimetics targeting the intracellular protein β‐catenin, a central component of the Wnt signaling pathway. Based on a protein binding partner of β‐catenin, a macrocyclic peptide was designed and its crystal structure in complex with β‐catenin obtained. Using this structure, we designed a library of bicyclic β‐sheet mimetics employing a late‐stage diversification strategy. Several mimetics were identified that compete with transcription factor binding to β‐catenin and inhibit Wnt signaling in cells. The presented design strategy can support the development of inhibitors for other β‐sheet‐mediated PPIs.	Mar 2021

Potenza Journal Of Physics: Condensed Matter 20 (5) DOI: 10.1088/0953-8984/20/5/055213 Diamond Proposal Number(s): [051] Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: We have used soft x-ray photoemission electron microscopy (XPEEM) combined with x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) and DC SQUID (superconducting quantum interference device) magnetometry to probe the magnetic ground state in Fe thin films produced by depositing size-selected gas-phase Fe nanoparticles with a diameter of 1.7 nm (~200 atoms) onto Si substrates. The depositions were carried out in ultrahigh vacuum conditions and thicknesses of the deposited film in the range 550 nm were studied. The magnetometry data are consistent with the film forming a correlated super-spin glass with a magnetic correlation length ~5 nm. The XPEEM magnetic maps from the cluster-assembled films were compared to those for a conventional thin Fe film with a thickness of 20 nm produced by a molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) source. Whereas a normal magnetic domain structure is observed in the conventional MBE thin film, no domain structure could be observed in any of the nanoparticle films down to the resolution limit of the XMCD based XPEEM (100 nm) confirming the ground state indicated by the magnetometry measurements. This observation is consistent with the theoretical prediction that an arbitrarily weak random anisotropy field will destroy long-range magnetic order.	Feb 2008

Bennett Thin Solid Films 514, 198-203 DOI: 10.1016/j.tsf.2006.02.083 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: We present a surface X-ray diffraction and Auger electron spectroscopy investigation of antimony capping layers used to protect indium antimonide and gallium antimonide epilayers. A thermally induced amorphous to polycrystalline structural transition was observed at approximately 190 °C for Sb caps on InSb(0 0 1) and GaSb(0 0 1) substrates. We conclude that 100 nm Sb caps deposited at elevated substrate temperature (150–200 °C) have superior structural order, and are able to protect III-Sb epilayers from atmospheric contamination for periods of at least a year.
