Beam losses have been minimised by injector tuning and stabilisation, and high level software has been developed to characterise booster and injection parameters. Accelerator Physics	Operation of the Diamond Light Source injector Chris Christou , Vince Kempson 2007 IEEE Particle Accelerator Conference (PAC) DOI: 10.1109/PAC.2007.4440999 Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: The Diamond Light Source (DLS) injector consists of a 100 MeV pre-injector linac and a 3GeV full energy booster. The injector system has been reliably providing beam to the storage ring since September 2006 in both multibunch and single bunch mode, at 5 Hz repetition rate. Single bunch and hybrid modes are being developed now for users later this year. Single bunch purity has been measured in the storage ring to be better than 0.1%. The timing system can be controlled to allow a wide range of filling patterns, including complete ring fill in both single and multibunch mode, and hybrid fills with individual single bunches placed in gaps between continous bunch trains. Top-up operation is envisaged for user operation in the future, and trials are underway to ensure safe and efficient running in this mode.	Jun 2007

Since December 2005 the booster has been brought up to specification as the subsystems and utilities became available and has performed excellently as an injector for the initial trials of the Diamond storage ring in May 2006. Dunkel Tenth European Particle Accelerator Conference (EPAC '06) Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: Commissioning of the linac for the Diamond Light Source (DLS) was completed in October 2005. The linac was supplied by Accel Instruments, with DLS providing beam diagnostics, beam analysis software, control system hardware and standard vacuum components. Much of the beam analysis was carried out using the first part of the Linac to Booster transfer line (LTB) which was designed and built by DLS. Operation of the linac and LTB at 100 MeV in long-pulse and short-pulse modes of operation was demonstrated, and all operational parameters were measured to be within specification.	Jun 2006

Martin Tenth European Particle Accelerator Conference (EPAC 2006) Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: The booster synchrotron of the Diamond Light Source is a full energy injector ramping from 100 MeV to 3 GeV with a repetition rate of 5 Hz. As part of the booster commissioning, beam optic measurements were performed to characterise the booster performance. Through the use of the beam position monitors, orbit corrections and tune measurements were performed at injection energy and during the ramp. Fabris Tenth European Particle Accelerator Conference (EPAC '06) Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: The Diamond Light Source (DLS) accelerator complex can be divided into three major components; a 3 GeV 561 m circumference storage ring, a 158.4 m circumference full-energy booster synchrotron and a 100 MeV pre-injector linac. This paper describes the design and presents commissioning results of the RF system for the booster synchrotron. Booster RF commissioning took place in late 2005 and early 2006 and involved the setting-into-operation of a 60 kW IOT amplifier, supplied by Thales Broadcast and Multimedia, a 5-cell copper cavity, manufactured by Accel Instruments, and a low-level RF system designed and built by Sincrotrone Trieste. Whilst generic applications are provided by the EPICS toolkit, accelerator physics applications for the commissioning and operation of the Diamond booster, storage ring and transfer lines are mainly developed with MATLAB. The MATLAB Middle Layer tools developed at ALS and SPEAR3 have been extensively used and extended with many new applications. Experience using these tools during the commissioning of the Diamond booster, transfer lines and storage ring are reported.	Jun 2006

Wyles , James Rowland , Alan Baldwin , Ian Martin 2005 IEEE PARTICLE ACCELERATOR CONFERENCE (PAC), VOLS 1-4 Particle Accelerator Conference (PAC 05) Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: Diamond is a 3 GeV synchrotron light source under construction at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire (UK)[1]. The accelerator complex consists of a 100 MeV linac, a full-energy booster and a 3 GeV storage ring with 22 straight sections available for insertion devices. Installation of all three accelerators has begun and linac commissioning is due to start in summer 2005. This paper will give an overview of the status of the installation and the progress in accelerator physics studies. The Diamond facility is expected to be operational for users in 2007.	Jan 2005
