Christian 9th International Particle Accelerator Conference IPAC2018 DOI: 10.18429/JACoW-IPAC2018-WEPAL025 Open Access Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: A low-latency, intra-train feedback system employing cavity beam position monitors (BPMs) has been developed and tested at the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF2) at KEK. The feedback system can be operated with either position information from a single BPM to provide local beam stabilisation, or by using position information from two BPMs to stabilise the beam at an intermediate location. The correction is implemented using a stripline kicker and a custom power amplifier, with the feedback calculations being performed on a digital board built around a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The addition of indium sealing to the BPMs to increase the cavities' Q-values has led to improvements to the BPM system resolution, with current measurements of the resolution of order 20 nm. The feedback performance was tested with beam trains of two bunches, separated by 280 ns and with a charge of ~1 nC. For single- (two-)BPM feedback, stabilisation of the beam has been demonstrated to below 50 nm (41 nm). Ongoing work to improve the feedback performance further will be discussed.	Jun 2018

The feedback system was designed to demonstrate nanometer-level vertical stabilization at the focal point of the ATF2 and can be operated using either a single BPM to provide local beam stabilization, or by using two BPMs to stabilize the beam at an intermediate location. The feedback correction is implemented using a stripline kicker and the feedback calculations are performed on a digital board constructed around a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The feedback performance was tested with trains of two bunches, separated by 280ns, at a charge of ~1nC, where the vertical offset of the first bunch was measured and used to calculate the correction to be applied to the second bunch. The BPMs have been demonstrated to achieve an operational resolution of ~20nm. With the application of single-BPM and two-BPM feedback, beam stabilization of below 50nm and 41nm respectively has been achieved with a latency of 232ns.	Aug 2021

Minolli ICALEPCS2019 DOI: 10.18429/JACoW-ICALEPCS2019-TUAPP05 Open Access Show Abstract ▼ Abstract: The PandABlocks framework comprises the FPGA logic, TCP server, webserver, boot sources and root filesystem, developed for the PandABox platform by Diamond Light Source and Synchrotron Soleil, for advanced beamline scanning applications. The PandABox platform uses a PicoZed System-on-Module, comprising a Zynq-7030 SoC, coupled to a carrier board containing removable position encoder modules, as well as various input and outputs. An FMC connector provides access to ADC/DACs or additional I/O, and gigabit transceivers on the Zynq allow communication with other systems via SFP modules. Specific functions and hardware resources are represented by functional blocks, which are run-time configurable and re-wireable courtesy of multiplexed data and control buses shared between all blocks. Recent changes to the PandABlocks framework are discussed which allow the auto-generation of the FPGA code and tcl automation scripts, using Python and the jinja2 templating engine, for any combination of functional blocks and SFP/FMC modules. The framework can target hardware platforms other than PandABox and could be deployed for other Zynq-based applications requiring on-the-fly reconfigurable logic.	Oct 2019
