Abstract: The รข-Bi2Sn2O7 structure is solved using high temperature powder neutron diffraction data. Under compression Bi2Ti2O7 does not undergo any phase changes, but Bi2Sn2O7 undergoes a similar series of changes as those observed during heating. A discussion of the origins of the Bi displacements that are linked to the dielectric properties of Bi pyrochlores, and of their ordering, is presented.
