Abstract: Up to now, hybrid structures that lie between the ubiquitous phthalocyanine and porphyrin scaffolds have been extremely difficult to prepare. A straightforward, high-yielding synthesis of meso-derivatized tetrabenzotriazaporphyrins (see scheme) is described, thus unlocking access to this underdeveloped class of materials.
