Abstract: In this chapter we outline key aspects of X-ray magnetic diffraction. Common uses and limitations of the technique are described. As an example, we consider nonresonant magnetic scattering from a relatively simple antiferromagnetic structure, and the techniques for calculating and measuring its angle dependence. Finally we discuss some studies where resonant magnetic X-ray scattering plays a unique role, and consider future trends and developments.
